The first step in any construction project is getting the necessary permits for your particular project. DeSa Construction Group will submit all permits on your behalf to the City of Ottawa. All service locates will be done before commencement of any project as well.
DeSa Construction Group does not believe in digging the "standard 12 inches" when building an interlock project. The soil located within Ottawa area is predominantly clay. Our experts follow the Interlocking Concrete Paver Institute (ICPI) standards to ensure a lasting foundation of your interlock construction project. Excavation first starts by removing the loam soil exposing native soil. A soil analysis will be completed for each job through a series of tests to determine the best way to stabilize the soil. The stabilization of the soil will either be chemical or physical. Products such as hydrated lime added to scarified soil will dry out wet conditions. Additional aggregates such as 3/4" clear stone are added to the soil to displace the clay.
Separating your hardscape base from the sub-soils is paramount to increase the longevity of your hardscape installation. A non-woven geotextile fabric creates a barrier between the sub-soil while also acting like a filter to slowly drain water that accumulates in the aggregate base into the surrounding soil.
DeSa Construction Group follows the industry standard for interlock pavers and installation, ICPI - Interlocking Concrete Paver Institute. Angular granular open-graded bases are used in all of our interlock installations. Open-grade interlocks the granulars while having voids allowing for water drainage to occur.
Geogrid is designed to increase the load bearing capacity and stabilization of soils. Geogrid is placed between layers of compacted granular material. The granular material partially penetrates through the openings of the geogrid creating an interlocking bond between the aggregate and the grid. This positive mechanical interlock enables the grid to resist horizontal shear from the fill and thereby increase the maximum load bearing capacity of the soft subsoil.
Synthetic bases for the interlock and hardscape industry were introduced in 2013 and have proven to withstand the Canadian climate.
These bases are ideal for most situations such as paths and patios but especially ideal for tight access back yards and hardscape installations which require minimal intrusion on the landscape.
Synthetic bases also increase our productivity allowing you to enjoy your hardscape installation sooner!
Concrete edge restraints provide the best restraint system for all interlock and hardscape installations. We use the industry leading Gator Alliance Xtreme Edge. This concrete edge restraint system has 3D micro-fiber mesh and is polymer modified for maximum strength and durability.
DeSa Construction Group uses the highest quality polymeric sand on every hardscape and interlock installation to increase the longevity of your project. Gator Maxx G2 sand is the pinnacle for residential and commercial applications - safe for driveways, patios, backyard interlock and around pools.
